Where oh where should you relocate to? Are you relocating for a job in a new city, looking for sunshine or snow, mountains or beaches, a certain type of community or just moving away from family, a little bit of planning can go a long way in avoiding the stress and anxiety related to making a big move like this.
I’m Sherri Echols, Broker Associate with RE/MAX Bryan-College Station. You can’t find your things, boxes are
everywhere, then add children or pets to the list of things to manage, and it can feel like an uphill battle. Let me reassure you!
It can also be a time of excitement! Your first step in moving to a new place is to research your new location. Maybe you already have a home lined up, maybe you don’t. Either way, research is the best way to feel more confident before you pick up and move somewhere new.
Find out the options for entertainment and leisure at the new place. If you have children, research school options and extracurricular activities.
If you’ll be job hunting, look up jobs and companies online before you move so you’re ready to apply and interview once you get there. Or maybe apply ahead of time.
Then, choose a neighborhood or area of town.Try visiting your new home/neighborhood before you move in, or use Google Maps to give you a good idea of what to expect of your neighborhood. Also the transit system – will you drive, carpool, ride a train or bus, or work from home? Let’s get a bunch of the questions answered before you get there.
And finally, plan your move–Moving checklists and labels will come in handy. Remember to label all of your boxes to make unpacking faster and easier and avoid your essential items getting misplaced. Keep important documents
and personal items and valuables in the car with you and make eating and sleeping arrangements beforehand. You might get there before your stuff does so plan for that too!
As an extra hint-let, your kiddos decorate their boxes, that way you know exactly where these go and they feel like they are part of the process.
Relocating has different effects on different people, but
the process can be exhausting for all. Starting over in a new place is indeed challenging and requires patience and determination. But you can do it! and with the tips mentioned above, I hope the tips in this video series helps make your relocation more fun and less stressful.
